Alex Schubert – Psychologist

I believe the foundation of good therapy is a strong relationship. Before therapy can be effective, you need to feel understood and comfortable enough to be yourself. My goal is to create a space where you can bring whatever is going on in your life without fear of judgement, and know that you’ll be met with genuine curiosity, warmth, and honesty.
Before becoming a psychologist, I spent eight years working as a personal trainer. While the work was different, the most important lesson was the same: meaningful change happens through relationships. People are more than the challenges that bring them into therapy, and I’ve always been interested in understanding what matters to them, what gets in their way, and how they can move towards the life they want to live.
I work with adults experiencing a broad range of concerns and use a person-centred and collaborative approach. Rather than telling you what you should want or how you should live, I aim to understand what matters to you and use the evidence, experience, and skills I’ve developed through training and practice to help you move in that direction.
Therapy with me is often warm, conversational, and at times enjoyable, but I also believe growth can require difficult conversations. I won’t shy away from asking challenging questions when they’re important, but I do so from a place of care and respect. I see therapy as something we do together, not something that is done to you.
My work is informed by evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Schema Therapy. While these models help guide my thinking, I don’t believe therapy should be driven by a particular framework. Instead, I adapt my approach to the person sitting in front of me.
